Pets for Vets Ventura County Chapter ~ Veteran's Day ~ November 11, 2016
We’re having a Veterans Day Pints with a Purpose benefiting the Pets for Vets Ventura County Chapter on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. We’ll be donating a portion of all beer sales to the local chapter of Pets for Vets. The organization provides a second chance for shelter pets by rescuing, training and pairing them with America’s active duty military and veterans who could benefit from the life saving therapy or friend that they find in a companion animal. The Pets for Vets team interviews each person to ascertain what he or she is looking for in a companion animal; they pair this with his or her personality and lifestyle to make the perfect veteran-pet match. Once the perfect pet is selected, the pet spends time in the home of one of their trainers who teaches the pet basic obedience and other valuable behaviors needed to live with his/her new owner. This can include becoming comfortable with wheel chairs or behaviors needed to help with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

The National Search Dog Foundation ~ May 2016
Founded in 1996, the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF) is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization based in Ojai, California whose mission is to strengthen disaster response in America by recruiting rescued dogs and partnering them with firefighters and other first responders to find people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters. They offer the professionally trained canines and an ongoing training program at no cost to fire departments. And they ensure lifetime care for every dog in their program: once rescued, these dogs never need to be rescued again. There are currently 72 SDF-trained Search Teams located in California, Florida, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah. Thanks to Mutual Aid Agreements between counties, cities and states, these precious, life-saving resources can be shared regionally and nationally to make sure that when disaster strikes, no one is left behind.
